Carpet Direction Installation

Provide an appropriate surface upon which to install carpet including confirmation of concrete moisture and alkali conditions cleanliness surface quality and floor levelness.

Step 5 staple any pad seams. Any two carpet tiles facing in different directions will appear to be slightly different colors. After the old flooring and carpet cushion have been pulled up vacuum the subfloor before the new carpet is installed to minimize dirt and dust. Use a staple hammer tacker to fasten the carpet pad against the edge of the tack strip.

This is the simplest carpet tile installation pattern. Provide drawings with the approved location of seams edge moldings carpet direction and accessories adhesives cushion etc. Carpet tiles will have arrows on the back that indicate the direction of the carpet pile. Due to the nature of the carpet this is the direction it should be installed whether on the floor or stairs.

Tape neighboring pieces together with 2 to 3 inch masking tape or as directed by the manufacturer. Install carpet pad so that any seams will be at right angles to those in the carpet. Obviously if your carpet has a pattern seaming two pieces requires careful attention to matching the pattern between adjoining pieces. On stairways the pile should sweep down.

A carpeted surface should be. Any damage from insects water or other problems should be repaired prior to carpet installation. Generally seams should run in the same direction as most foot traffic. If you don t see dips buckles or divets in the surface of the carpet your installer did a good job.

Carpet does have a direction usually indicated on the carpet backing. Lay out the carpet pad perpendicular to the direction you plan to install the carpet image 1 and staple it near the tackless strips with a staple hammer image 2. Reposition your body to examine the carpet in another direction. Essentially you can either rotate tiles or offset them to create patterns.

But even for non patterned carpeting you can detect the direction of the carpet s pile by looking at it from different directions in strong light. Keep in mind that your new floor coverings need to be installed over a structurally sound subfloor. Consider carpet pile direction when seaming. Staple the seam of the pad alternating staples so that they aren t beside one another.

Ideally you would install carpet on stairs as if the roll were rolling down the stairs. Mix carpet tiles from different packs to account for dye lot variations. Extra hidden carpet should be folded back at the top and bottom of stairs so that as the edges of the tread are worn the carpet can be moved to hide the wear. The manufacturer recommends how to orient the tiles.
